I have to say that with 2 young children, Ian-2 and Ava-3 mos., I dearly love spending time with them. With a busy work week, I’m usually gone before they get up each morning and home in time for dinner, baths and wind down before bed. That’s what makes our time together on the weekends so special, my son Ian wants to help make coffee.
We get out the grinder and start heating the water, he scoops…some on the floor and some in the grinder, we grind and he dumps it in the French Press. Later when the water is ready Dad pours in the water, Ian stirs and when it’s ready, we have 4-hands on the press plunger working it to the bottom for that perfect cup. The coffee is great, the time with my family is unforgettable! Of course I give into the begging and crying for his own cup of coffee as he has been an integral part of the process and should enjoy the fruits of his labor, Ian gets the watered down version of the regular coffee. Lately Ian regularly asks to make coffee just before bed…I think I’ve created a coffee monster.
I know a lot of family’s have similar experiences with making breakfast or a special snack with their kids and that’s great, the real joy is in making that lasting memorable experience with your family and sharing in something you all can enjoy.

I write this almost a week after the running of my 1st marathon, the 2007 Tecumseh Trail Marathon in the wooded hill country of Southern Indiana. Hats off to the DINO crew and the Hoosier Hikers Council who put on this amazing race. Wow, what an awesome experience, the physical and mental challege coupled by the freezing temperatures (28-34 deg. F) and the un-believable beauty of this trail. My body kept warm and energized by our amazing Sumatran Mandheling. Our current crop is a Grade 1, triple picked Sumatran that has an incredible full body with low earthy tones, wonderful aromatics and best of all LOW ACIDITY! The amazingly low acidity level in our Sumatran was well suited to drink before a brisk 26.2 mile run thru the woods and kept me going. I highly reccomend this to anyone prior to any strenuous activity if you, like me, have to have your coffee but don’t want the un-pleasant acid reflux later in the day.
Depauw Univiersity hosted their 1st ever Sustainability Expo featuring local companies offering products and services that provide for sustainability. Jameson Coffee was proud to be the only local coffee roaster at the event featuring our Fair Trade Certified and Certified Organic coffee’s.
Some vigorous debate was had at the Jameson Coffee booth regarding how Depauw Univeristiy can help reduce their carbon foot print by more effectively utilizing their local resources it has. Depauw University currently features 5-locations on campus to aquire coffee, all of which is shipped in from out of state vendors. Jameson Coffee, Putnam County’s only coffee roaster, offering an extnesive line of fresh roasted Fair Trade Certified and 100% Certified Organic coffees is, is located 5 minutes from campus
It’s finally here, Spring 2008! It arrived in Indiana yesterday, 3/20/08 on a bright note, Sunshine with a high of 54F. This is one of my favorite times of year, coming out of the cold, wet, snowy winter with the sound of birds chirping, leaves budding, Easter season and the opening weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament. I can’t think of a better way to spend the first days of spring than glued to the TV watching my NCAA bracket and point spreads disintegrate as the upsets begin. I’ll spend most of this weekend engulfed in basketball and celebrating the Easter season with a warm cup of our Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. Our Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is wonderful year round but when the sun begins to shine upon us once again I particularly enjoy its creamy body with floral notes, hints of lemon and its vibrant acidity. An additional bonus to our Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is that it is also Fair Trade Certified and 100% Organic. Cheers to spring and a Winning Weekend, Enjoy!

Now that you’ve got the skinny on the aroma of coffee and how it can help you wake up and the benefits of caffeine with your post workout re-fuel it’s time to place your order!
A few suggestions:
The high acidity and the lighter roast profiles of the South/Central Amercian Coffees offer some of the most spectacular aromatics and are most associated with your typical breakfast blends. The high acidity is what gives you that nice punch in the nose in the morning to get you going.
The Indonesian/Asian Coffees are very low in acidity with heavier bodies and from personal experience are hands down the best selection for pre or post workout events. The lack of acidity is the key to your succsessful pre or post workout caffeinated beverage. Enjoy!
